Dear Mr. Halliday: At the Superintendent forum held on Thursday, May 25, 2023, as president of the Ocean City Board of Education, you made a commitment on behalf of the entire board to the Ocean City school community that the ongoing superintendent search would be open, transparent and that public input would be valued and strongly considered through our the search process.
Despite that commitment, what does the board do in response at the first meeting right after the public forum …eliminate the initial or first public comment period from the agenda for the upcoming special meeting this Saturday.
While Board Policy 0167 addresses regular meetings only, traditionally, even with special meetings, there has ALWAYS been public comment on agenda items only at the start of the meeting.
For this Saturday special meeting, there is no public comment listed on the agenda. Attached to this letter is the following which clearly demonstrates the change:
